The church was silent.
Many have grown up in a tradition that thinks reverence for God is to be silent. There is some truth to this, but is it the way heaven will be? The book of Revelation paints a different picture. It declared that in the heavens heavenly creatures sing to God continually “Holy Holy Holy!” So then, why is the church so quite? Where are the men? Where are the women? Where is the joyful noise?
We have drawn a line in the sand somewhere along our life with Christ. We have somehow been tricked to think that when we get excited at our kids games, or during a spirited family game night, that we do not need to be excited for singing praises to God. But there are a few problems with creating 2 different types of excitement and zeal in our lives. When we respond with praise to people and love with heartfelt love, it can be felt. But why not in praising God? Why do we so often seems to lack a heartfelt response? God sees our heart, He knows how we respond. He cant be tricked! The second problem is that God loves when His people sing and make melody with their heart! Eph 6:19 And the bible confirms this. So we should sing out. Not just in the walls of the church but outside as well. The world needs joy filled people.
So the second part of a spirit filled life is one that sings and makes melody to the Lord with the heart. One of the first excuses that we all put out there is that “we can’t sing”! That is a total lie. Everyone can sing. The problem is everyone has defined singing with human standards. When we say we can’t sing, what we are really saying is, “I can’t sing as well as others, (because that’s who we compare ourselves too)” Who are you worshiping? In that statement, first you show you are worshiping others. you are saying that you care more if you sound like someone else rather than fixing your eyes on the ONE you’re singing too. Secondly, you show you worship yourself. You are worried about how YOU sound, and not focusing on the fact that your DAD loves to hear YOU sing. Now these statements may sound over the top. But for one moment think about why you do or do not sing. And then move your mind outside of the church and ask why you do or do not sing and make melody with your heart to the Lord? Do you see that the world needs to hear the joyful sound of the spirit filled man or woman?
The world and the flesh want you to be silent. The enemy loves when we sing nothing. And I want to see a world of spirit filled people singing to the Lord God Almighty. So how about you? Will you sing at church? Sing at home? Sing at work? Singing shows joy, worship, love and beauty. Just remember, satan wants to tempt you to define what’s beautiful by the worlds standard, but you MUST know that God already sees you as beautiful. He takes joy in hearing you. When you sing He doesn’t hear notes, He hears HEARTS!
15 pLook carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 pmaking the best use of the time, because qthe days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what rthe will of the Lord is. 18 And sdo not get drunk with wine, for that is tdebauchery, but ube filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in vpsalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 wgiving thanks always and for everything to God the Father xin the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,21 ysubmitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
