The pressure of life is great. And when we can’t get everything to come together in the way that we would like there is an immense amount of pressure in our society to lie. When you look into the word “lie” and you see how things operate you begin to realize how easily and how quickly our society has accepted lying.
So what do I mean to lie? Lying is used with reference to a situation involving deception or founded on a mistaken impression. The last part caught my attention, a mistaken impression. How often do you find yourself being willing or tempted to present facts about yourself or a situation in such a way that would lead others to have a cloudy or mistaken impression of you or of the situation you are sharing?
And now here is the hook that lies within the sin of lying. When we make lies our refuge and falsehood our shelter, then the life that we build, the character that we present, and the impressions we give are not completely true. And as a result, life is not satisfying because deep down inside we know that we’re lying.
It’s a trap of fear. Often we try to give false impressions to people because we are scared of what they would think. But by lying to them or giving a false impression all we’re doing is reaffirming the fear. And the fearful question that keeps running through our minds is “what will people think of me?”
Instead of fearing man, fear God. Realize that God has the true impression of who you really are. He sees and hears all the lies and every time that we try to present situation falsely. And that is the beauty of grace. God loves us just the way we are right now. He sees it all and yet he sent his son for us. By faith we can present truth that may not make us look very good, but that makes God look great! The Story of our lives is that we can’t, but God did! Rest in the beauty of grace.
