When you think of yourself what do you think? What do you see? What words come to mind? Is it words and images of failure, sin, hurt and brokenness? If it is, maybe you’re forgetting how God looks at you.
We are so good at seeing how we can’t measure up. We can see our flaws, failures and missed marks. We struggle to accept the power of Christ and the forgiveness and righteousness that is in Him. I want to urge you to look to Christ. Not just to salvation but to to the mighty blessings that salvation brings. God is far greater than mind can comprehend and we must see ourselves as He sees us to overcome our natural tendency to focus on ourselves and our failure.
Ephesians 1:4 tells us that God “choose us in him before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love”. Do you see the bold words? The blessings of being in Christ stem from the reality that when you are in Christ God sees you in a new way. He sees you as distinctly set apart and different from the world. He sees you as spotless. He sees you through the blood of Christ.
It’s not that you, in and of yourself are worthy of these things, but it’s that Christ is so selfless that he shares His blessings with those who are in Him. The real question is do you believe that Jesus is so powerful to change you from being a failure to being blameless? From being ordinary to being extraordinary? Christ is so amazing. He shares so abundantly and completely. Just trust in the power of Christ. Trust that Christ has changed your status in heaven so greatly that God now praises you as holy and blameless in Christ. Not as a failing, sinning, hurting and broken one.
