Have you ever thought about what God says/thinks about you? When I first asked myself that question My response was failure. But as a child of God, a person who has placed their trust in Christ, that cannot be the answer. As I studied scripture I began to see a tapestry of praise and blessing pouring out from God for those in Christ.
For to be in Christ carries priveleges so profound as scriptures declare, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, in heavenly places, in Christ…” The 3 words underlined share the same root in Greek. Eulogia, or eulogy in english. It means praise and blessing. The NIV chooses to change the first blessed to praise, but not all. Could it be that the mighty power of Jesus’ blood and righteousness can make measely people like you and I be able to transform us into praise worthy objects to God? Yes! This is the power of Christ in us! “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has praised us with every spiritual praise, in heavenly places, in Christ…”So can we know that God has good things to say about those in Christ? Can God praise His children in His Son Jesus? Yes!
So far will God go to praise/bless us? First, He uses wreckless abandon by praising with “every spiritual praise”. Imagine someone would bless you with everything they have. “Heres my keys, wallet, house, clothes, etc”. You’d think they weere crazy. But this is how God praises you in Christ. Second, God shows shameless abandon by praising us “in heavenly places”. His praises ring throughout the universe and in heaven. He doesn’t care who hears Him. He has good things to say about those who are in Christ. Last, His praises are selfless abandon when He praises us “in Christ.” In Christ God showed how selfless He is. He endured shame to adore the shamed.
It’s hard to believe that the things God says about Christ, He says to those in Christ. In each of our hearts is a desire to be pleasing, or that someone likes us. And to believe that God is pleased and likes us is hard to fathom. But when Christ was baptized God said “this is my son with whom I am well pleased.” For those in Christ can hear these same words from God, “I am well pleased with you.” And in the end all this praise and blessing is in Christ.
So this is why we praise God. He has blessed us far more than we can think or imagine. And there is nothing you must do to receive it. Just believe. Believe in the beautiful praise God has to us in Christ.
