Hunger and thirst. 2 words that describe our lives. We hunger and thirst for much more than food and water. Careers, relationships, security, style, talents, achievement, value, rewards, acknowledgement, comfort, ease are just a few things that we all hunger and thirst for. And in Jesus’ time it was exactly the same.
People came to Jesus looking to have their hunger and thirst satisfied with bread. Yet, the funny thing about earthly satisfaction is can never be found. Many a rich people have been asked: “How much is enough?” Their answer: “Just a little bit more.” Does this describe you? Are you seeking to have your hunger and thirst satisfied only to find your self wanting more?
Only Jesus can satisfy. He satisfies in a way that truly cures your cravings, and leaves you satisfied. Satisfied in a wholesome and deep way. He promises that if we come and believe we will never thirst again. NEVER! And this promise is furthered by His promise of never being cast out. So when Jesus is our Cure to hunger and thirst, not only will you be satisfied in Him, He will be satisfied in you by His own love and sacrifice.
I challenge you to ask yourself; “What Is my greatest hunger? What do I want more than anything?” If your answer is anything other than Jesus, make it your aim this week to drink of Christ. Eat his word, it is the only cure to the itch you can’t reach.
Sing to Him, Worship Him
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold; I’d rather be His than have riches untold; I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands; I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand.
Than to be the king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause; I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause; I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame; I’d rather be true to His holy name
He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb; He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
